Komatsu Kawai (Japanese: 河合 こまつ) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Komatsu Kawai (河合こまつ) was born in Japan on 2 December 1914.

On 11 September 2014, shortly before her 100th birthday, the mayor of Hamamatsu City visited her home to celebrate her centennial. That November, she received an award in the “8020 Movement” contest, which promotes maintaining at least 20 natural teeth at the age of 80.

At the age of 99, she still retained 26 of her own teeth. She mentioned that she liked beans and dried squid (surume), went for walks every day, and tried not to worry too much. At that time, she was also able to recall the names and birthdays of all 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, showing that her memory remained sharp.

Kawai passed away in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on 13 November 2025, at the age of 110 years and 346 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Hamamatsu City. Following her death, 109-year-old Masako Wade became the oldest living person in Hamamatsu City.

RECOGNITION

Following the death of 111-year-old Masae Furuhashi on 23 September 2025, Kawai became the oldest living person in Hamamatsu City.

Her age was verified by Hamamatsu City, Ryohei Asano and Eli Logan, and validated by LongeviQuest on 4 October 2025.
