Kō Takayanagi [Japanese: 高柳こう] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Saitama Prefecture at the time of her passing.
Kō Takayanagi (高柳こう) was born in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, on July 24, 1901, as the second of ten siblings. From a young age, she worked diligently and took care of her younger brothers and sisters while also developing skills in sewing.
She married and had two sons and two daughters. Her husband passed away at the age of 69, and after her children became independent, she devoted herself to caring for her grandchildren.
Around the age of 105, she moved into a nursing home. Even at 110, she actively participated in recreational activities such as ring toss and ball games, where she showed a competitive spirit. Her greatest joy at that age was eating, and although she needed assistance to stand, she could walk with support. She occasionally went out and enjoyed her favorite foods, including tuna, soft-serve ice cream, and curry rice.
Following the passing of Shike Sato of Kawaguchi City at age 111 on August 22, 2011, Takayanagi became the oldest living person in Saitama Prefecture.
She passed away from natural causes in Kōnosu City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, on April 8, 2012, at the age of 110 years and 259 days. After her death, Hana Shindō of Tokorozawa City succeeded her as the prefecture’s oldest living person.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 28 December 2011 and later recognized by LongeviQuest and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
