BIOGRAPHY

Katharina Hagemeyer was born in Hagen-Hohenlimburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on 4 August 1908, as the youngest of nine children. Having never married or had children, she maintained close relationships with her nieces and nephews, who visited her regularly. A trained hotel manager, she had worked across Germany and later in various private households. She especially enjoyed reminiscing about her time with a family in Garmisch.

Hagemeyer lived independently in Hohenlimburg until she was 102. At the age of 109, it was reported that while her hearing had deteriorated, she remained free of illnesses or other health conditions. She was still mobile, navigating the nursing home in a wheelchair, and her mind remained sharp and alert.

Hagemeyer passed away in Hagen, on 12 July 2020, at the age of 111 years, 343 days.

RECOGNITION

On 28 October 2019, following the passing of 113-year-old Mathilde Mange, she became the oldest living person in Germany, at the age of 111 years, 85 days. She held the title until her own passing in July 2020, when she was succeeded by Adele Rodenstein.

Her age has not been validated.
