BIOGRAPHY

Kaneko Yagi was born in Japan on 1 January 1914, as the third daughter in a family of six siblings. She spent much of her life working in agriculture, cultivating crops such as rice and mandarin oranges while raising eight sons and one daughter.

When she was around 90 years old, she moved into a nursing home established by her eldest son. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren also worked at the care home, which provided her with a peaceful environment.

By the time she reached the age of 109, her hearing had deteriorated significantly, but she maintained her daily routine of reading the newspaper and exercising along with watching TV programs. She also had a hearty appetite and consistently finished all three of her meals, with fried chicken and ramen being her favorite dishes.

Kaneko Yagi passed away in Minamishimabara, Nagasaki Prefecture, on 25 September 2024, at the age of 110 years, 268 days.

RECOGNITION

Following the passing of 109-year-old Harue Ogawa (13 April 1913 – 9 February 2023), Yagi became the oldest living person in Nagasaki Prefecture, at the age of 109 years, 39 days.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 11 October 2024.
