BIOGRAPHY
Judith Mends was born in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Grenada, on 23 June 1916. She spent most of her early adult years living in Carriacou, where she owned and operated a general store. According to her nephew, she was a strong supporter of her next-door neighbor, former Prime Minister Herbert Blaize. She also taught piano lessons, organized cultural activities, and spearheaded the construction of a community center in Carriacou. Even into her later years, she remained a devoted supporter of the Hillsborough Roman Catholic Church.
Her sister, Christina Roberts, passed away in Saint George, Grenada, on 20 September 2024, at age 101.
RECOGNITION
On 5 December 2024, at the age of 108 years, 165 days, she surpassed the final age of Elaine Pivotte (1906–2014), becoming the oldest known Grenadian-born person ever.
