BIOGRAPHY

Juan Mijares Camargo was born on 28 June 1915 (claims 29 March 1915), in Guaicaipuro, Miranda, Venezuela. His parents were Gerónimo Mijares and Juana Camargo, both originally from Miranda state.

From a young age, he had to work to help support his family, starting with simple jobs like selling arepas. Over the years, his life was marked by a great capacity for adaptation, working in a variety of jobs: warehouse employee, pharmacy assistant, assistant in a law firm, jewelry salesman, and entrepreneur in the production of homemade remedies.

At the age of 23, he married Carmen Juanita Blanco on 25 February 1939 and together they had 15 children. During a difficult economic period, his friend Cristóbal Pacheco advised him to train at the Metropolitan Circus, where he had his first fight. He stepped into the ring and won. His wife passed away on 21 January 2008.

Despite lacking extensive formal education, Mijares developed his knowledge through self-study. This approach led him to become a teacher, sharing what he had learned throughout his life. Simultaneously, he excelled as a physical education and boxing instructor, a discipline that profoundly influenced his lifestyle and longevity.

His commitment to society led him to actively participate in his community, where he founded neighborhood and cultural centers in Caracas, establishing himself as a respected community leader.

When asked about his secret to a long life, he attributed it to consistent physical exercise, a balanced diet, and healthy habits, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol. Throughout his life, he maintained that work should be done with honor rather than for money, and he championed the importance of curiosity and continuous learning.

He currently lives in Caracas, Venezuela.
