BIOGRAPHY

Joyce Coates was born in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, England, on 27 October 1910, as one of two siblings. Her father owned a cobbler’s shop on the High Street, where she spent her entire life. She married Len, a local farmer, and they lived next door to her childhood home. Although they had no children, they enjoyed a long and happy marriage until Len’s passing in the late 1980s.

Coates ran a hairdressing salon called Annette’s for twenty years. She never traveled abroad, preferring Torquay as her favorite holiday destination. Despite her age, she enjoyed good health and credited her longevity to her genes. Coates moved into Regency Care Home in 2008.

Coates passed away in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, England, on 29 April 2021, at the age of 110 years, 184 days.

RECOGNITION

Coates’ age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and validated by the ESO on 2 December 2020.
