José Hernández Ayala was born in Guanajuato, México, on 9 January 1906.
He married Carmen Salazar (1916–1941) and the couple had two daughters: Dolores and Rosa Maria.
In the 2000s, he lived in Gary, Indiana, USA.
Hernández Ayala died in Indiana, USA, on 9 February 2016. He was survived by his daughter Dolores, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
