Supercentenarian Profile

Johanna Rehfeldt

Born:

June 17, 1910
Hainsberg (Freital), Saxony

Died:

July 7, 2020
Bremen, Bremen

Johanna Rehfeldt was a German supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Johanna Rehfeldt was born in Hainsberg (Freital), Saxony, Germany, on 17 June 1910.

She outlived both of her husbands; her second husband passed away in the 1970s. Rehfeldt lived alone in a small house on the edge of the forest in Lindow, Brandenburg, until the mid-1990s. The home had neither running water nor heating. Her only son, Heinz Keck, who had settled in Bremen, eventually brought her to live with him. After his death, she was cared for by her grandson, Hans-Peter Keck, until she was moved into a nursing home in 2011.

At the age of 103, it was reported that she remained in good physical and mental health. Although her hearing had declined and she required a walker to get around, she reportedly had no other complaints. A woman of deep faith, she recited the Lord’s Prayer several times a day—something she had done throughout her life. She remained a passionate gardener well into old age, although her ability to tend the garden became limited in her centenarian years. She attributed her longevity to a modest lifestyle, noting that she never smoked, never drank alcohol, and always made sure to get plenty of sleep.

Johanna Rehfeldt passed away in the city of Bremen, on 7 July 2020, at the age of 110 years, 20 days.
