BIOGRAPHY

Jesús Coronado Munguía was born in Buenavista, Municipality of Cajeme, Sonora, Mexico, on 29 March 1906 (claimed 28 March 1901). He had six siblings. He apparently moved to Empalme at a young age, accompanied by his mother, trying to escape the violence of the Yaqui people in the region. He started working in the city as a messenger for the Mexican Railways, between the ages of 10 and 14, and later rose through the ranks until he became a master mechanic, a position he held for the rest of his working career.

At some point, he married Matilde Ruiz in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. They didn’t marry in a church because at that time all the churches in Sonora were closed due to the Cristero War. The couple had five children: Humberto, Rolando, Jaime, Carelia and Sergio.

One of his older sisters, Mercedes, passed away in 2004, aged 102. As of 2014, he had 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jesús Coronado Munguía passed away in Empalme, Sonora, Mexico, on 11 October 2014. He was known as “Don Chuy”.
