BIOGRAPHY

Worden was born in Logansport, Indiana, USA, on 30 December 1870, to parents Jacob James Huston (1834–1895) and Charlesetta Charlotte Palmer (1840–1907). She had two siblings: Vincent Palmer Houston (1865–1931) and Minnie Hisey (born 1872).

In 1888, she married Harvey S. Farrington (1871–1903). They had a son, Francis. Shortly after being widowed, she married Charles Sumner Stiver (1860–1914), but they divorced soon after. Her third marriage was to Otto F. Worden (1885–1956) in 1907. The couple moved to Los Angeles. They adopted a daughter, Juanita Newell. In 1916, they homesteaded land near Mountain Ranch, Calaveras County, where she lived for 50 years. Upon her husband’s passing, she moved into a cottage in San Andreas.

Shortly before her 100th birthday, she attributed her longevity to a desire to live, to a love of people and to “being contented with everyday happenings.”

Worden passed away in San Andreas, California, USA, on 19 February 1982. She was survived by her adopted daughter, Juanita.
