BIOGRAPHY

Boggs was born in Harrisville, Harrison County, Ohio, USA, on 6 July 1866, to parents Thomas Hall (1831–1919) and Hannah Webster (1835–1923). Her parents were Quakers. Her mother was a minister who preached throughout the world. She had four siblings: Thomas Austin Hall (1858–1929), Arthur Hall (born 1860), Paxton Vickers Hall, and Mary Patterson Hawthorne (1863–1923). At the age of 17, she enrolled in Oberlin College where she studied painting for two years.

On 15 September 1892, at the age of 26, she married Edwin Nelson Boggs (1859–1944). The couple had five children: Nelson Boggs (1893–1894), Paul Raymond Boggs (1895–1972), Marjorie Hall Boggs (1897–1991), Mildred Kathryn Giffen (1900–2000), and Alda Elizabeth Knapp (1902–2000). The family resided in St. Clairsville, where her husband operated a coal mine and a grocery store. After he retired in 1942, the couple moved to live with their daughter, Marjorie.

Boggs passed away at her home in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, USA, on 27 March 1977, at the age of 110 years, 264 days. She was survived by two daughters, seven grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Her daughter Mildred Giffen passed away in June 2000, aged 100.
