Jeanne Maria Bournat (née Chalard) was a French supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).

BIOGRAPHY

Jeanne Bournat was born in the commune of Crevant-Laveine in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in central France, on 22 January 1903. The First World War had a profound impact on her life, especially when her father left to serve.

In Crevant-Laveine, she married Adolphe Bournat, a farmer from the hamlet of Chez Barry, at the age of 27. She often said that her dream had always been to become a farmer and to marry one. Her two sons, Jean-Baptiste and Pierre, died on 2 November 1978, and 2 May 1979, respectively, only a few months after her husband, who passed away on 30 April 1978.

She continued tending her garden until the age of 104. After spending two years living with her granddaughter, Agnès, she moved to L’Ombelle retirement home at around 106 years old. When asked about the secret of her longevity, she replied without hesitation, “Don’t smoke, don’t drink.”

At the age of 110, she was reported to be remarkably quick-witted, with her memory fully intact. At that time, she had one granddaughter, Agnès, two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jeanne Bournat passed away in Maringues in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in central France, on 20 December 2014, at the age of 111 years, 332 days.
