BIOGRAPHY
Iwatarō Hiramori (平盛岩太郎) was born in Japan on 16 May 1916.
Hiramori enjoyed playing shogi and continued to participate in friendly shogi tournaments even around the age of 100.
In the December 2017 issue of Onomichi City’s public relations newsletter, Hiramori was featured as one of the city’s healthy residents aged 100 or older. At the age of 101, he reportedly still had 28 of his own teeth and received a special “8020” award, which recognizes people who have retained at least 20 of their own teeth at the age of 80. He also said that playing shogi was one of his hobbies.
Following the death of 108-year-old Isamu Mitsumasu of Higashihiroshima City on 27 April 2023, Hiramori appears to have become the oldest living man in Hiroshima Prefecture.
He currently lives in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
