Ise Masuda was born in Japan, on 2 March 1905. On her 100th birthday in March 2005, the mayor of Higashisonogi Town honored her longevity. Despite being slightly hard of hearing at 100, she remained in good health, continuing to take walks, work in the fields and garden, and enjoy her meals. At the time, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the support of my family and doing what I wanted to do, I’ve lived a long life.”
Later, Masuda moved into a nursing home, where she celebrated her 110th birthday. The mayor and other dignitaries visited her to mark the occasion. Although she was in a wheelchair, she greeted them warmly, saying, “I’m grateful that so many people came to celebrate with me.”
Masuda passed away on 22 November 2015, at the age of 110 years, 265 days.
By September 2013, Masuda was recognized as the sixth-oldest living person in Nagasaki Prefecture. By September 2014, she had become the third-oldest, and by September 2015, she was ranked as the second-oldest.
On 6 November 2015, following the passing of 111-year-old Wasa Takano of Isahaya City, Masuda became the oldest living person in Nagasaki Prefecture, at the age of 110 years, 249 days. Masuda passed away just two weeks later, and was succeeded by Haruyo Matsunaga.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 14 October 2024.
