BIOGRAPHY

Irving Piken was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States, on 20 December 1908. He grew up in the Williamsburg neighborhood.

In 1930, he graduated from Brooklyn Law School and eventually became vice president of the Bank of North America. He spent most of his life in New York, living with his wife and two sons. He was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, a baseball team, for which he first heard of in 1917, at the age of 8. The team later moved to Los Angeles and changed the name to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Piken continued being a fan until the end of his life. His favorite player was Jackie Robinson.

At the age of 60, he was found to have three small cancers, which were subsequently removed. In 1977, he moved to Laguna Woods, California, where he lived for the rest of his life.

In his late 90s, he moved to the Laguna Woods Community Center in Laguna Woods. He had three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He claimed that the secret of his longevity was partly in the fact that he had been walking a lot since he was young, but also due to exercising and staying active. At the age of 106, he was still visiting going to the gym, and worked out every day.

Piken died in Laguna Woods, California, USA, on 27 February 2020, at the age of 111 years, 69 days.

RECOGNITION

Following the death of Lester Townsend on 22 October 2019, Piken became the second-oldest known living man in the USA, and following the death of CP Crawford on 23 November 2019, he became the oldest known living man in the USA.
