Irma Ilari was born in Piancastagnaio, Tuscany, Italy, on 22 September 1907. She was the eldest of six children, and she took on a motherly role in helping her parents raise her siblings.
She married Angelo Tondi on 14 September 1927, shortly before turning 20, and together they had two children, Ideale and Luigi. By the time she reached 110, her family had grown to include three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In the early years of her marriage, she lived in Cesena to be with her husband, who was then the director of the Dazio. She later returned to Abbadia, where she took over her mother-in-law’s bakery in the town center, successfully managing it for 40 years.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, she attributed it to several factors: hard work, patience, a healthy diet, prayer through the rosary, and the loving care of her family.
Irma Ilari passed away in Abbadia San Salvatore, Tuscany, on 17 September 2019, at the age of 111 years, 360 days.
Ilari’s age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio and validated by the ESO on 20 June 2021.
