BIOGRAPHY
Branch was born in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, on 14 May 1903, to parents Walter Thomas Godfrey Sr. (1874–1964) and Florence L. “Florie” Roberts (1878–1917). She had 16 siblings and half-siblings. She grew up on a farm, where she developed her lifelong passion for gardening.
At the age of 18, she met Linwood O. Branch, and they married soon after. Linwood worked as the Purchasing Agent in Norfolk, Virginia, and the couple purchased a property which they named ‘The Lynn-Dee Motel’ after their two sons, Linwood Jr. and Deon. Branch was a member of the Cavalier Garden Club, Virginia Beach Methodist Church, the Beasley Bible Class, Princess Anne Country Club, and was an active member of the Circle of the King’s Daughters.
Iris Branch passed away in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States, on 26 May 2014, at the age of 111 years, 12 days. She was survived by her son Deon, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and one brother, Dan Godfrey.
