Irena Śmiałowska was born in Korczew, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland, on 27 March 1908. Later, she lived in Białystok (Podlaskie Voivodeship) with her parents and sisters, where she completed high school. She then moved to Warsaw and spent the occupation years with her husband and son in Czerniewo, Masovian Voivodeship.
After World War II, the family settled in Sanniki, Masovian Voivodeship, where she worked for many years as the manager of the Municipal Library. This role brought her great satisfaction, as books were her lifelong passion.
In June 2017, at the age of 109, she moved into the Kombatant nursing home in Legionowo, where she lived together with her son Andrzej.
On her 111th birthday, she celebrated this special day with her family, friends, and the staff of the Kombatant Nursing Home. The Deputy Mayor of Legionowo, Konrad Michalski, and District Board member Artur Stankiewicz also visited to offer their best wishes. In addition to flowers, they gifted her her favorite sweets.
Irena Śmiałowska passed away in Legionowo, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland, on 30 March 2019, three days following her 111th birthday.
