Iolanda Salata was born in Genova, Liguria, Italy, on 26 August 1908. In 1951, she moved to Desenzano del Garda. She moved there after nurturing her vocation with the Ursuline Sisters in Pegli and serving in Voltri before later moving to Milan. She worked as an assistant at the nursery school, where she also led the children’s choir. For years, she brought music to the church of San Zeno and the parish of Maguzzano, leading the congregation in song and serving as the choir director at the institute.
In August 2018, to celebrate her 110th birthday, her fellow nuns organized a special event attended by the mayor, the municipal administration, and the entire community.
Iolanda Salata passed away in Desenzano del Garda, Lombardy, on 14 November 2018, at the age of 110 years, 80 days.
