BIOGRAPHY

Ines Sommovigo was born in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy, on 6 November 1911.

At some point, she married Lorenzo Majoli. Their first child died at the age of four due to being given the wrong injection. They had two more children, sons Angelo and Mario. Her father-in-law, Angelo Majoli, was the founder of Palio del Golfo, a local sporting, cultural and tourist event. During World War II, the family moved to Ostia. During the war, they hid a Jewish family in the cellar of the Majoli house, ensuring the family’s safety from deportation. Her brother-in-law was a partisan commander, and he was also kept hidden away after sustaining a wound.

At the age of 109, she contracted COVID-19, but successfully recovered.
