Okazawa was born in Japan on 10 March 1910.
She married at some point in her life and had four children, eight grandchildren, and at least four great-grandchildren. While raising her children, she lived in Nagano Prefecture.
Her hobbies reportedly included haiku and calligraphy.
In the summer of 2013, her family gathered to celebrate her 103rd birthday with a large party, attended by 23 relatives.
Okazawa passed away in Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture, on 9 August 2024, at the age of 114 years, 152 days.
Upon the death of Yasue Okai, 114, on 6 February 2023, Okazawa entered the top 10 oldest validated living people in Japan.
On 11 February 2024, following the passing of 114-year-old Seki Yoshida, Okazawa became the oldest living person in Ibaraki Prefecture.
Okazawa’s age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yumi Yamamoto and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 17 February 2024.
Following the 22 February 2024 death of 116-year-old Edie Ceccarelli, Okazawa became one of the top 10 oldest validated living people in the world. Following the passing of Juan Vicente Pérez Mora on 2 April, she moved to the ninth spot, and after the passing of Masa Matsumoto on 9 July, she moved to the eighth spot in the world and the third spot in Japan. She remained on the eighth spot until her passing.
