For many years, she also wrote a weekly column for the East Side Herald, a local community newspaper.

She married John Elwood Jones (1903–1957), an Indianapolis attorney, who passed away in 1957. In 1995, she married George A. Long (1902–2002), who preceded her in death in 2002, at the age of 100.

Among her many honors and awards, she was named Volunteer of the Year in 1999 by the Indianapolis Council of Club Women. She also received the George Cottman Award from the Irvington Historical Society and the George Julian Award from the Irvington Community Council.
