BIOGRAPHY
Ichi Ishida was born in Japan on 15 January 1899. After marrying, she opened a shop near the Nihonbashi fish market. Following the Great Kantō Earthquake, she relocated to Minato and later moved to Tsukiji.
On 15 September 2006, at the age of 107, she received a visit from Yoshihide Yada, the Mayor of Chūō, Tokyo. At the time, she was living in a nursing home in the Akashichō district. Although she used a wheelchair for mobility, she was in good health and was delighted by Mayor Yada’s congratulatory visit.
On 3 September 2010, at the age of 111, she was visited by the mayor once again. By then, she was residing in a special nursing home for the elderly in the Shinkawa district. According to reports, she did not suffer from the summer heat that year and enjoyed eating large amounts of yakisoba at the home’s summer festival.
Ichi Ishida passed away in Chūō, Tokyo, around 13 December 2011, at the age of 112 years, c.332 days.
RECOGNITION
Her age was verified by the MHLW, Japan, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 30 October 2010. The validation was later recognized by LongeviQuest.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest known living person in Tokyo.
