Honorine Jeanne Marie Rondello (née Cadoret) was a validated French supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Honorine Rondello was born in Kérity in the Côtes-d’Armor department in Brittany in northwest France, on 28 July 1903. Her parents were Yves Marie Cadoret (born 1867) and Marie Anne Menguy (born 1875). She began working at the age of 14 and retired 59 years later, on the eve of her 73rd birthday. As a lady-in-waiting serving Breton notables, she accompanied them one winter to Menton, in the Alpes-Maritimes, where she met her future husband — a shoemaker by trade.

On 2 October 1929, at the age of 26, she married Étienne François Rondello (1897–1984). After their marriage, she decided to settle permanently on the Côte d’Azur, a place she would never leave again. They had a daughter, Yvette Florens.

Following a serious fall in 2010, Honorine moved into a retirement home in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. By her 114th birthday in 2017, she was reportedly still mentally sharp and remarkably independent. She managed her own personal care, used the elevator to go downstairs for meals, and remained an avid reader, especially fond of historical, adventure, and detective novels. She also followed the news closely, read the local paper every day, and continued attending mass once a month.

Honorine Rondello passed away in the commune of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in the southeastern French department of Var, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, on 19 October 2017, at the age of 114 years, 83 days.

RECOGNITION

On 4 September 2016, following the passing of Elisabeth Collot, she became the oldest living person in France. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Lucile Randon.

Her age was verified by the members of Les Grands Centenaires Français, and validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 24 March 2020.
