Hildegard Wüstenberg was born in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany on 18 May 1911, the eldest daughter born to parents Ludwig (who was a pastor) and Berta Bötte. She attended primary school in her city of birth, but moved to Berlin-Spandau for her university education, studying at College of Physical Education. However, her father died shortly thereafter, leading to the 18-year-old Wüstenberg to move with her mother to Ziegelstraße in Marburg. While here, she met her future husband, judge Kurt Wüstenberg. The couple were married in 1935, and went on to have four children together. The pair were married for 62 years until Kurt’s death in 1997.
In 2004, Wüstenberg moved to a nursing home, where she would reside for the remainder of her life. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, she was unable to celebrate her 109th and 110th birthdays.
