Hilaria Modesta Avendaño Sánchez

BIOGRAPHY

Avendaño Sánchez was born in San Francisco Telixtlahuaca, Oaxaca, Mexico, on 8 October 1915. She grew up in a poor family. During the Mexican Revolution, she and her family had to go into hiding because soldiers would come to the town to loot, kill, and sow chaos.

She often remembered how hard life was when she married, with men working all day and earning barely 25 cents. Religion was very important to her; whenever there was a family party or celebration, the town priest was invited to officiate the ceremony.

As an adult, she frequently traveled to Mexico City, where her daughters lived.

She currently lives in San Francisco Telixtlahuaca, Oaxaca, Mexico.
