Hermínia dos Santos Corrêa was born in Vale de Asnes in Mirandela County, Bragança District, Portugal, on 17 July 1910. She dedicated her life to agriculture and raising her three children. When she worked in agriculture, she would leave the house with only a crust of bread in her pocket, which was enough to sustain her until she returned for lunch.
Around the age of 95, she was moved to the “Bom Samaritano” Hospital Home at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mirandela. In 2017, she suffered a stroke that impaired both her mobility and speech. Until that point, she never forgot her daily routine of having a small glass of brandy on an empty stomach before breakfast. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, family members and home staff celebrated with her, singing happy birthday from a safe distance.
Hermínia dos Santos Corrêa passed away in Mirandela, Bragança, Portugal, on 27 September 2020, at the age of 110 years, 72 days. She was survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
At the time of her passing, she was the third-oldest (known) living person in Portugal, following Maria da Encarnação Nunes de Sousa and Albano Andrade. She was the oldest living person in the Municipality of Bragança.
Her age was verified by the ESO on 18 April 2021.
