Hazel Laverne Myrick was born in Taloga, Oklahoma, USA, on 20 August 1916. She was the youngest of eight siblings. At just 12 years old, she began working at her local drugstore. Throughout her youth, she maintained an active lifestyle and enjoyed playing a variety of sports, including golf, baseball, basketball, and bowling.
In 1975, Laverne moved to Harlingen, Texas, where she continued to reside, surrounded by family and loved ones. A devout Christian, she remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She also visited 56 countries.
At the age of 109, she shared one piece of advice for living a fulfilling life: “Always be honest and sincere.”
