Hatsue Sawada (Japanese: 澤田ハツヱ) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.
Hatsue Sawada was born in Hamakazumi Village (now Namekawa City), Toyama Prefecture, Japan, on 27 June 1903. She married Saichiro, who later served as a member of the Namerikawa City Council, and together they raised a son and a daughter.
On both her 99th and 100th birthdays, the mayor of Namerikawa City visited her to celebrate her longevity, presenting her with commemorative gifts. Sawada attributed her long life to “eating everything,” and even at 100 years old, she remained enthusiastic about growing vegetables and tending to her garden.
Later in life, around 2009, Sawada was hospitalized in Namerikawa City. Despite her hospitalization, she remained in good health, and it was reported that at the age of 106, she still occasionally enjoyed sushi buffets at the hospital. That same year, at 106, she became the oldest person in Namerikawa City.
Hatsue Sawada passed away on 28 February 2014, at the age of 110 years, 246 days.
At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest living person in Toyama Prefecture, behind Sue Hirano.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 14 October 2024.
