Haruko Morishita was born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, on 18 February 1909. At the age of 32, she married Kenzo, who ran a clothing store in Takahashi Town, Okayama Prefecture. The couple had one daughter. A hard worker from a young age, she was active in growing vegetables in her own fields until her 80s.
In September 2017 and September 2018, she received courtesy visits from the mayor of Takahashi City as the oldest resident of the city. She expressed her gratitude to the mayor and to the staff who took care of her daily. Regarding the secret to her longevity, her nephew’s daughter and family representative mentioned that Morishita’s love of meat may have been a factor.
Morishita passed away of natural causes in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture, on 15 June 2019, at the age of 110 years, 117 days.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yu Li, Ryohei Asano, and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 26 June 2024.
