Hana Saito (斎藤ハナ) was born in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, on March 10, 1902. After marriage, she raised seven children.
In 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, she was visited each September by the mayor of Maebashi to celebrate her longevity as the city’s oldest resident. On those occasions, she stated that the secret to her long life was “living a stress-free life that suits oneself.”
Saito passed away from natural causes in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, on March 29, 2013, at the age of 111 years and 19 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Gunma Prefecture.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 31 December 2013 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
