Hajime Fujita (藤田一) was born in Japan on February 15, 1902.
He worked as a carpenter until the age of 75. He had eight children, and at the age of 108, his family included 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Fujita drank aojiru (a green vegetable juice) daily and enjoyed beer once a week. He stated that the secret to his longevity was, “In life, there are many sad things, but it’s important not to overthink them.”
Fujita passed away from acute pneumonia at a hospital in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, Japan, on October 3, 2012, at the age of 110 years and 231 days. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living person in Oita Prefecture. Following his passing, Mitsue Toyoda of Kitsuki City, who was born on the same day as Fujita, succeeded him as the oldest living person in the prefecture.
His age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 7 October 2013 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
