Gozei Higa was born in Yonabaru, Shimajiri District, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan on October 10, 1897. She passed away at a hospital in Haebaru, Shimajiri District, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan on December 10, 2009 at the age of 112 years, 61 days.
In September 1997, Higa was reported as an elderly person who would reach 100 years old by the end of March 1998. In September 2009, she was reported as the second oldest living person in Okinawa behind Kama Chinen.
