Gladys Almeda Cole (née Lyon) was an American supercentenarian.
Cole was born in Watertown, New York, USA, on 13 February 1903, to parents Frank and Florence Lyon. She attended Watertown public schools and worked for a time at Toohey Silk Mills and Shaughnessy Knitting Mills.
On 12 November 1927, at 24, she married John N. Cole. Her husband, a machinist at New York Air Brake Co. for 45 years, passed away on 22 November 1990, at the age of 84. Together, they had five children.
She was a member and past president of the Northside Improvement League Auxiliary and, alongside her husband, was actively involved in their dinners. She also served as an officer of Rebecca’s Lodge and was a former member of the VFW Post 1400 Auxiliary. All four of her sons served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Gladys Cole passed away in Watertown, on 2 July 2014, at the age of 111 years, 139 days. She was survived by four children, as well as 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
