Gladys “Glad” Anderson (née Johnson) was an American supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Gladys Anderson was born in Kemper County, Mississippi, USA, on 28 June 1902, to parents Johnie E. Johnson (1872–1942) and Daisy Welch (1874–1928).

After marrying John Anderson in 1926, the couple settled into a home on Flint’s north side on East Gillespie Avenue, near what would later become Buick City. They remained devoted to one another for 78 years. On their 75th wedding anniversary, they celebrated the milestone by renewing their marriage vows.

John Anderson died in 2004 at the age of 101. The following year, Anderson moved into a nursing home.

The couple’s only daughter was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1939. Having no other children, Anderson opened her home to the sons and daughters of several of her nine siblings, helping to raise many of her nieces and nephews. Her great-nephew, Michael Coleman, later reflected on her character: “She has always been a forgiving spirit; she was always loving and caring for everyone.”

Gladys Anderson passed away at Kith Haven Nursing Home in Flint, Michigan, on 3 December 2012, at the age of 110 years, 158 days.
