BIOGRAPHY

Germán Cifuentes Higuera was born in Villalar de los Comuneros, Castile and León, on 12 May 1910. He was the fourth of seven children born to Guillermo and Constantina, a family of farmers who dedicated their lives to cultivating wheat and barley. His siblings were: María, Eusebio, Cecilio, Ángela, Teodora and Valeriano. They owned their own land but occasionally worked for others as well.

For most of his life, he worked as an agricultural laborer, performing various tasks in the field such as digging, plowing, and tending to livestock. He fought in the Spanish Civil War (1936–39) on the side of the Nationals, serving in Navas del Marqués, Robledo, Madrid, and other locations. One of his brothers also fought, but on the Ebro Front. His wife passed away during the war, only three years after their marriage. After her passing, he and their only daughter, Teo, lived with his parents.

His sister Angela died at the age of 101, and his sister Maria Cifuentes Higuera (8 May 1915 – 26 April 2023) died at the age of 107 years, 353 days.
