Georgia Chorpening (née Oakley) was an American supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Georgia Chorpening was born in Thornton, Arkansas, USA, on 6 September 1903, to parents George and Alangus Oakley. She spent the early part of her life in Fordyce, Arkansas. After graduating from high school in 1924, Georgia moved to Sanford, where she worked at Churchwell’s on First Street. It was there that she met her husband, Carl Edward Chorpening Sr. (1904–1991). The two were married during one of their lunch breaks.

Carl later took a job with the railroad in Sanford, while Georgia drove a school bus for the Seminole County Public School System for 23 years. Together, they had one son, Carl Jr. Throughout her years in Sanford, Georgia was an active volunteer. She gave her time to the Sharing Center, the jail ministry, the Pink Ladies, and even graded school papers.

Since arriving in Sanford in 1926, she was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church. In 2004, she received the Points of Light Award from Governor Jeb Bush in recognition of her service to the community.

Georgia drove until the age of 96 and lived in her home on Palmetto Avenue until she was 100. She then moved to Renaissance Retirement Living Community, and later to Atria at Lake Forest. She credited her long life to God, but also to her daily glass of buttermilk, a diet rich in vegetables, and regular exercise.

Georgia Chorpening passed away in Sanford, Florida, on 16 July 2015, at the age of 111 years, 313 days.
