Georgette Adrienne Marcelle Léveillé (née Lecat) was a French supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
Georgette Léveillé was born in Paris on 28 June 1903. Léveillé worked as an accountant. She had two children, including a son named Jacky.
When she learned she would be moving into a retirement home in Bois-Colombes—at 108 years old—she protested, “I don’t want to go into a home for old people! There are only old people there…” By age 111, she had seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. At 95, she took her first helicopter ride, and at 107, she was still an avid crossword-puzzle fan. She also invested her savings in the stock market.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, her son attributed it to “eating well, laughing well, drinking well—especially Sauternes and champagne.”
Georgette Léveillé passed away in the commune of Bois-Colombes in the Hauts-de-Seine department, in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, on 14 March 2015, at the age of 111 years, 259 days.
Léveillé’s age was verified by Antoine Demarais (GRG), as well as Jimmy Lindberg (ESO), and was validated by each organisation on 7 August 2014 and 13 May 2021 respectively.
