BIOGRAPHY

Pilot was born in Passaic, New Jersey on 25 February 1912. She was one of six children born to Polish immigrants Vincent and Agnes (Sudol) Pilot. She attended Holy Rosary Grammar School, followed by Passaic High School.

After graduating high school, Pilot worked as a bookkeeper until 1936, when she was employed as an administrative assistant at Uniroyal until her retirement in 1974. She never married and had no children.

In 1969, Pilot moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey, where she lived for the rest of her life. She was a member of Club Polonaise, a Polish women’s club, and travelled to places including Canada, Europe (including Poland), the Caribbean, Hawaii, and all around the United States. Her last surviving sibling, Helen Staruk, died in 2015 aged 96.

Pilot died on 20 March 2023 at the age of 111 years, 23 days. She was survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their descendants. Her successor as the oldest known living person in New Jersey was 110-year-old Susan Keane.
