BIOGRAPHY

Hikage was born in Ōdate, Akita Prefecture, Japan, on 30 March 1911. At some point, she married Sukeji Hikage, and the couple had four children (one son and three daughters). Later, they had eight grandchildren.

It was reported she enjoyed handicrafts, and she would often make things such as dolls and tissue covers to hand out to her grandchildren. In 2016, she moved into a special nursing home for the elderly.

Hikage passed away in Ōdate, Akita Prefecture, Japan, on 20 November 2022, at the age of 111 years.

RECOGNITION

On 29 January 2020, following the death of 109-year-old Yasu Nara, she became the oldest living person in Ōdate City.

In September 2022, she was reported as the third-oldest living person in Akita Prefecture, behind Mitsuno Satō and Yūko Satō. Following Satō’s passing on 6 October, she became the second-oldest living person in the Prefecture.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yu Li, Yumi Yamamoto, and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 19 November 2023.
