BIOGRAPHY

Francisca Guerrero was born in Mier y Noriega, Nuevo León, Mexico, on 21 June 1897, to parents Ascención Guerrero and Juana Cuellar. Her father reportedly died at 35 and her mother at 115. She lived in Monterrey, Nuevo León, before moving to the United States during the times of Mexican Revolution (1910–17).

During her adolescent years, she lived in Galveston, Texas, with her siblings. When one of her brothers passed away, he left her his four children to raise. Later, when her sister died, she took in another four children. Though she never married and had no biological children, she raised 17 nieces and nephews. She adopted a 2-day-old baby, who became her only daughter. Coming from a wealthy family, she had a deep appreciation for classical music and played the violin for many years. In 1940s, she permanently settled in the United States, and she spent the following 60 years of her life in Mission, Texas.
