Florence Carroll was born in Millerton, New York, USA, on 9 June 1907, to Italian-born father Paul Emile Brunese and Irish-born mother Mary Ann McCann. As a young adult, she was a professional cook in Lakeville. She was a member of Millerton High School’s Class of 1925.
On 9 February 1930, at 22, she married John J. Carroll at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia. He predeceased her in 1989. Together, they had nine children: Thomas, Joseph, Richard, Marian Ursula, John, Alan, Philip, William, and Jean. Even after moving into a nursing home in Connecticut, she remained a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. She had worked as a private cook for A.B. Hall in Lakeville, Connecticut. Her hobbies included bird watching and gardening.
Florence Carroll passed away at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, Connecticut, on 15 April 2021, at the age of 113 years, 310 days. She was survived by by two sons, John Carroll and Philip Carroll, and a daughter, Jean Leggett, as well as 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by five sons and a daughter.
On 18 November 2017, following the passing of 110-year-old Elsie Davis, she became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Connecticut, at the age of 110 years, 162 days. Upon her own passing in April 2021, she was succeeded by Ernesta García Hernández.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 30 September 2019. The validation was later recognized by LongeviQuest.
