Filomena Arán Franquet was a Spanish supercentenarian who was the oldest woman in the country upon her death. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO), and recognised by LongeviQuest (LQ).

BIOGRAPHY

Arán Franquet was born in La Granadella, a town in the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia, on 4 May 1888. She became the oldest living woman in Spain aged 109, following the death of Felisa Munárriz Martínez on 19 January 1998.

Arán Franquet died in San Feliú de Guíxols, Catalonia on 9 August 1999 at the age of 111 years, 97 days. She was never the oldest living person in Spain, as Antonio Urrea Hernández was older and outlived her.

RECOGNITION

Arán Franquet’s age was verified by Miguel Quesada and validated by the GRG on 12 December 2012. Her age was later validated by the ESO on 8 March 2020.
