Fernande Louise Renée Bataille was a French supercentenarian.
Fernande Bataille was born in the commune of Rouen in the department of Seine-Maritime, Normandy, France, on 5 December 1906.
During the Second World War, she served as both a regular (P1) and underground (P2) agent in the Maunier resistance network, assisting the head of a key sector in Bizerte, Tunisia. As a second lieutenant in the French Armed Forces, she was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Legion of Honor and the War Cross with Palm on 8 July 1972.
In the 1950s, Fernande Bataille moved to Nice with her second husband, Paul Bataille, whom she married there on 22 October 1957. In Nice, she worked in various jobs, including as a cashier at the Rialto cinema.
In May 2015, at the age of 108, she was promoted to Commander of the Legion of Honor.
Fernande Bataille passed away in Nice, on 29 August 2017, at the age of 110 years, 267 days.
Bataille’s age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
