BIOGRAPHY

Harrington was born on May 6, 1911, on a farm in Dyer County, Tennessee, the daughter of John Nathaniel Porter and Leila Ada Frieburg. She had five brothers—John Nathaniel, William Douglas, Clay Hampton, and William Nathanial—and one sister, Helen Louise Harrington.

In 1927, she married Paul Harrington Sr., and together they had seven children (Steve, Mike, Paul, John Neal, Patsy Weir, Helen Lynn Goheen, and an infant child). In 1950, they purchased the indoor Calvert Theatre on Main Street, followed by the construction of the Calvert Drive-In Theatre in 1953. The family moved from Covington, Tennessee, in 1954 to manage the drive-in. By the time she became a supercentenarian, the Calvert Drive-In had been operated by her family for four generations. Evelyn worked alongside her family well into her 80s, and even in her 90s, she could often be found handing out tickets to customers. She was also a member of the Calvert City United Methodist Church.

Evelyn Harrington passed away at Rivers Bend Retirement Community in Kuttawa, Kentucky, USA, on 8 August 2021 at the age of 110 years, 94 days. She was survived by her sons (Steve and Mike), seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, and 4 great great great-grandchildren.
