Eloise Chandler was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on 21 January 1910. She was the youngest of 13 children born to parents Maurice Arncliff Johnson and Josephine Pitcher. In 1920, she moved to Canada.
At some point, she married Charles Chandler. The two were married for 34 years before her husband’s passing. They had no children. For the last 65 years of her life, she resided in the district of East York in Toronto. There, she became very involved in the community and befriended many people. In her free time, she loved to go bowling, dance, and travel. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she would say it was staying physically active and enjoying a little bit of scotch or brandy.
Chandler celebrated her 110th birthday at Harmony Hall in East York, surrounded by family, staff, and her fellow euchre players. After greeting her guests, including local MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and MPP Rima Berns-McGown, she expressed her gratitude and wished everyone well.
