BIOGRAPHY
Elisabeth Franke was born in Boguszów-Gorce, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland (then Germany), on 10 November 1903. Franke never married and kept in touch with only one brother, with whom she maintained a long-term relationship by telephone.
She entered a nursing home in 1979, and at the age of 100 moved into a newly built wing of the facility. By the time she was 108, it was reported that although she used a wheelchair, she remained mentally sharp and lucid.
Elisabeth Franke passed away in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, on 11 August 2014, at the age of 110 years, 274 days.
RECOGNITION
Her age was validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 24 February 2020.
