Waesche was born in Virginia, USA, on 9 February 1867, to parents Rev. Edward Hugh Henry III (1832–1900) and Mary Anna Stone Henry (1838–1928). She had five siblings: Mary Gray Jones (1863–1935), Edward Hugh Henry (1864–1889), Lucy Peyton Waesche (1870–1927), John Bronaugh Henry(1871–1947), and Rev. William Eustace Henry (1875–1910).
Waesche was married twice. Her first marriage was to Theo Gamble Crawford (1860–1905), which lasted only a few years before her husband passed away. On 16 August 1932, she remarried Henry Theodore Waesche (1870–1955). Although she never had children of her own, she had two stepchildren from her second husband’s first marriage.
Waesche passed away at Fairland Nursing Home in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA, on 9 March 1977, at the age of 110 years, 28 days.
In February 1977, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the first recorded supercentenarian in the U.S. state of Maryland. Consequently, she held the title of the state’s oldest person ever at the time of her passing. She held the record until 2 December 1982, when Eva Adelle Bloodsworth surpassed her final age.
Her age was verified by Jimmy Lindberg, and validated by LongeviQuest on 16 February 2024.
