Edvige Marinucci was an Italian supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Edvige Marinucci was born in Bussi sul Tirino, Abruzzo, Italy, on 20 December 1908. She was the eldest of six siblings.

During World War II, she left her parents to care for her grandparents. Her brothers were sent to the front, while the rest of the family was evacuated to the countryside. From Francavilla, they relocated to Colledara in Teramo. Her fiancé, an army captain, came to Colledara on his motorbike at the end of the war to reunite with her. They later married and settled in Pescara, where he worked as a surveyor in the civil engineering department, and she dedicated herself to being a housewife. After her husband’s passing in 1973, she lived alone for a time before moving in with her son. She helped care for her grandchildren, Marco and Giulia.

At the age of 106, it was reported that she still had good eyesight and no difficulty speaking. She was still able to walk and eat unassisted, though she experienced a slight hearing issue caused by her cervical spine. At the time, she lived in her apartment in Colli, accompanied by her only son and his wife. She continued driving until advanced age but eventually chose to stop, remarking that the city had become too noisy and busy for her. After giving up driving, she began leaving the house less frequently. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she attributed it to her family genetics, noting that several relatives were centenarians. She shared that her grandparents all lived past 100, retaining their teeth and hair into old age. At that time, she also had a surviving sister, Liliana, who was 86.

Edvige Marinucci passed away on 23 February 2019, at the age of 110 years, 65 days.
